About The Punt House

The Punt House Bar and Kitchen celebrates the region’s finest ingredients, expertly crafted with a Mediterranean touch.  Here, modern Australian cuisine is infused with European influences, creating a dining experience that’s both familiar and delightfully unexpected.

The Punt House is more than just a restaurant; it’s a tribute to the rich history of this iconic location. Originally starting as a humble bait and tackle shop, the building evolved into Jameson’s Restaurant in the 1990s, and later became On The Pier, a beloved dining spot until 2019. When the opportunity arose to transform this historic site, it was important to honour its legacy while bringing something new to the community.

The journey to revive The Punt House hasn’t been without its challenges.  From bushfires to the pandemic, and even the construction of a new bridge, all brought their specific hurdles.  But with unwavering determination and a deep love for this space, the vision was brought to life.

The Punt House is named in honour of the original punt that ferried people across the Clyde River before the first bridge was built in the 1950s.  This nod to the past is at the heart of the restaurant, where history and modernity coexist beautifully.

As the doors open to all a new chapter begins.  The establishment is a gathering place, a piece of local history, and a culinary destination that will serve the community for many years to come.  You are invited to join us and experience the vibrant flavours, rich history, and warm hospitality of The Punt House Bar and Kitchen.

We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land on which we reside. We pay respect to Elders past, present and emerging.
